Sharp gave the Captain a look of confusion. "Kill me? Why would anyone want to kill... Oh." 
The change was irrefutable- the stallion's face changed from one of bemusement to a stony, clenched snarl. "This was the day my partner was killed," he growled quietly.
How could have I been so stupid! he yelled at himself internally. Golden Scales is probably out there, fighting for his life, and I've been fooling around instead of attempting to save him!
Ah, but you can't try to save him, the Dark Voice reminded the pegasus. It'll interrupt the timeline, and we can't have that, now can we?
Despite hating the fact with every fiber of his body, Sharp couldn't refute the Voice's logic. Sighing in resignation, the grey pegasus looked up at the other members of his group. "He was killed in the struggle for Canterlot while I was distracted. His death was one of the few reported casualties in the skirmish."
