Primeval narrowed her eyes and seemed to look right through the Inspector.  A bright violet glow emitted from her forehead and a beam of scintilating almost invisible energy shot forth, barely missing the pegasus's head.

[Two hostiles detected, one neutralized]
A very short scream was heard as  black form collapsed some twenty paces behind the gray stallion. Next to the smoking changeling stood a somewhat confused looking lemon-tan earthpony, who shook his head and raised a gun–

"Y'know..." Riptide said, idly, whipping the assailant off the ground by the limb holding the firearm, "I'm getting pretty sick of these things."

 Hunter frowned, tilting his head. "Just how long did you spend in Dimension X? Rayberry is some kinda big-wig fiction writer." The unicorn scratched under his chin. "Err, not that I ever read fiction... gotta keep the mind sharp and the horn perceptive." He spoke as he pulled several red tipped nettle-like leaves from a small pouch and began chewing on them.

The green pony's pupils dilated wide as he continued, "...think there's supposed to be some kinda 'Writing Convention' or some-such going on right now. You might find something there..." he frowned, staring at a patch of grass growing between paving stones. "But with Princess Twilight off on 'royal duty', which I can't be bothered to think of a euphemism for right now, I can't see how big it'd be."He shrugged, nearly falling on his face.

And still the pen scratched away at the notepad, now following a lazy orbit around Stompson's head.
